Professor John Macdonald has been a voice for men's health for over fifteen years. As Director of the Men's Health Information & Resource Centre based at the Hawkesbury campus of the University of Western Sydney, Professor Macdonald argued for the establishment of a National Male Health Policy which was eventually implemented by the Labor government in 2010.
"Improved health for men requires not just better targeted medical services for chronic illness but also recognition of the role of social factors in determining health outcomes. The policy promises support for a longitudinal study of men's health which also includes key social factors such as education, income, unemployment and work-life balance.
"The environMENt campaign for Men's Health Week 2012 is entirely reflective of the efforts we put to trying to build understanding around a holistic, bio-psycho-social approach to men's health."
